John Callahan - AVSC Nordic Program Director

John Callahan is a former U.S. Ski Team member and Olympian. This will be John's 6th year as Nordic Director. John has led the AVSC Nordic team to two High School National Championship titles. John grew up in Aspen and was an alpine skier with AVSC before switching to Nordic skiing in college. He participated in the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France and was ranked 3rd in the U.S. in nordic skiing from 1991-1993. Prior to becoming the AVSC Nordic Director John was the Park City Nordic Team head coach for 7 years.

Travis Moore - Cross-Country Coach

Travis is an Aspen native and product of the AVSC Nordic Team. Travis competed on 4 consecutive Junior National Teams, and went on to ski for the University of Colorado's Varsity Ski Team. He was nationally ranked 15th in the early 90’s. Travis is in his 16th year as an AVSC coach. He is a science teacher and the head cross-country ski coach at Aspen High School.

Austin Weiss - Cross-Country Coach

This will be Austin's 8th year coaching for the AVSC Nordic program. Austin has also been coaching local marathon runners for the past 7 years in the off season. He was born and raised in Baltimore, MD but has lived in Colorado for the past 23 years. Austin has a B.A. in Outdoor Education from Prescott College and worked for Outward Bound for 10 years. He is an avid rock climber and mountaineer and was the team leader for the 1991 American Manaslu Expedition. Austin is currently the Trails Coordinator for the City of Aspen and is responsible for grooming and maintaining the 70+ kilometers of Nordic trails in the valley.

Craig Ward - Head Nordic Combined / Jumping Coach

Craig grew up in Aspen and is a long time Aspenite. He has extensive cross-country competition experience – having been on the 1978 and 1982 World Championships teams and was 1980 U.S. Olympic Nordic team captain. He was a member of the US National Team from 1975 – 1984. This is Craig's 8th year as AVSC's head jumping coach. Craig was the founder and director of the Aspen Nordic Council and is largely responsible for extensive and excellent Nordic trails in the Aspen/Snowmass area. Craig is currently a real estate broker for Morris & Fyrwald.

Ben Dodge - Cross-Country Coach

Ben was a nationally ranked racer in the early 90’s. He has coached with AVSC Nordic for 15 years. Ben is currently the Executive Director the 10th Mountain Huts.

Curt Carpenter - Nordic Combined / Jumping Coach

Curt grew up in Wisconsin where jumping is almost a prerequisite. In his youth Curt competed in jumping throughout the mid-west and he brings great experience and enthusiasm to the program. Curt operates a graphic design firm.
