AVSCs Bobby Moyer to represent U.S. at Trofeo Topolino mini-Olympics in Italy
The United States Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) has selected AVSC athlete Bobby Moyer to join two other 13-14 year old J3 Age Class ski racers and represent the United States at the 47th Annual Trofeo Topolino international championship in Panarotta, Levico Terme, Italy, February 20-21.
The 14 year-old Moyer bested a crowded field of rivals in Slalom and Giant Slalom at this weekends Topolino Time Trials at Winter Park to secure a coveted spot on the team. Times were close after the slalom [on Saturday] on the mens side, but Bobby was able to put down a smoking fast run in GS to clinch the spot, remarked USSA Rocky Mountain Division Competition Manager Darlene Nolting.
Moyer is the first alpine athlete from AVSC to represent Aspen and the U.S. at this event. He and his teammates will face racers from 40 different countries in slalom, giant slalom and kombi, a race containing elements of both slalom and GS. He will join Buck Hills Paula Moltzan to represent the Rocky Mountain Division.
Were thrilled that Bobby made the team and wish him nothing but success in Italy, said AVSC Alpine Age Class Head Coach Alice Milu. Wed also like to celebrate another AVSC racer, Devon Cardamone, who really gave Bobby a run for his money this weekend.
The only other AVSC athletes to compete at this event were snowboarders Teddy and Jordan Karlinski who anchored a U.S. Team that won gold in 2004. Jordan now represents Snowmass Village on the U.S. Snowboard Team.
