AVSC and D&E Snowboard Shop Announce New Snowboard Donation Program
Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club announces a brand-new partnership with D&E Snowboard Shop to offer 100 sets of snowboards, boots and bindings for only $50 for the season to qualified AVSC scholarship recipients. While Jeff Gorsuch and Gorsuch, Ltd. have generously offered free ski equipment sets to hundreds of children for several seasons, this new program marks the first time that children looking to snowboard can have access to equipment at a fraction of the total cost. "This is a great breakthrough for our participants," said AVSC Base Camp Director and snowboard enthusiast Madeleine Hawken. "There's no longer a reason for kids who want to ride to switch to skiing because they can't afford the equipment."
AVSC credits D&E for their generosity in stepping in to make this program possible. "We've been committed to making sure this happened from day one, "said Hawken. "We're definitely excited to have such great support from D&E and their staff." Qualifying AVSC participants can use the equipment for the entire season for a $50 fee but must return the sets in order to retain enough supply for the next season.
The snowboard donation program is the latest in a series of outreach initiatives by AVSC. Over 1,900 kids and teens participated in AVSC last year and the Club is committed to reaching every interested child regardless of circumstance by holding the line on pricing this season to keep their programs affordable. In addition, 30% of AVSC skiers and snowboarders last season received financial aid totaling $218,000. Club skiers and snowboarders hail from entire Roaring Fork Valley and as far away as Grand Junction. AVSC takes great pride in leading the nation in integration as 18% of Club participants come from Latino families. "We keep exploring new ideas and partnerships that will allow us to reach more kids and this snowboard program is a perfect example," said AVSC Executive Director Mark Cole. "Great partners like Aspen Skiing Company, D&E Snowboard Shop and Gorsuch Ltd. means more kids can take to the mountains with us. We're grateful to them for helping us make it all possible."
