AVSC's Jen Hudak and Tucker Perkins topped the best Freestyle skiers in the U.S. in halfpipe and walked away with gold at the U.S. Freestyle National Championships in Squaw Valley, CA. The win was Hudak's fourth title and Perkins' first.

According to a USSA press release, Hudak threw down a run featuring "a 540 mute, alleyoop critical, 540 safety, and alleyoop 5 for the win." In an interview after the event, Hudak explained how she trimmed back her difficulty on the final air. "I was planning on doing a 7, but the soft snow snaked me a little bit and I didn't get my full run in finals," she said.

Perkins, who trained with AVSC this season, had a big return to form after finishing second four years ago. He took advantage of the softer spring conditions to pull out his full bag of tricks. According to the release, "the winning run consisted of double side flip, rightside cork 900, leftside cork 900, alleyoop flatspin 540, leftside cork 1080."

AVSC's Walter Wood took home the silver medal in the pipe competition. AVSC rising star Torin Yater-Wallace qualified for finals and finished seventh overall and teammate Alex Ferreira finished 13th.
